We are very proud to have enabled the villagers of Oguis to rebuild their community after the devastating typhoons of 2020. A significant amount of work has been done in a short period of time, but much more is still to be accomplished.
Below you can see the projects that are currently in progress, and those that still require funding to complete. 100% of all contributions are allocated to these causes, and we appreciate any donation, large or small. Together, we can help lift up Oguis by empowering the people to overcome the hardships they face. This goal begins with education and rebuilding infrastructure in their village, one donation at a time.
$6800/house
Most villagers in Oguis live in shanties that are made from sheet metal, mud, and spare pieces of wood. When hurricane season hits each year, these shanties rarely survive the extreme winds that ravage the island. To avoid this, we have begun constructing properly built concrete homes. With secure housing, the villagers can rest easy knowing their family and possessions will remain safe.8
$6800/house, $3250/property
In fall of 2021 we purchased a small property, and now construction has begun on four single-family homes (two duplexes) in Oguis for residents who are currently living on the roadside or on property they do not own. The houses will be provided and the families will pay a mortgage on the property, with the revenue being redirected to the scholarship program for student educational needs.5
$200 each, $7400 in total
After the typhoons hit Oguis, the electrical system throughout the village was severely damaged. This caused all street lights to stop working and left everyone in complete darkness at night. To maintain overall safety, we are bringing an environmentally-friendly solution by funding the purchase and installation of 37 new solar-powered street lamps and poles. With these, we can guarantee no one has to travel home in the dark.
This part of the project is on hold until 2023.
The villagers of Oguis do not currently have a facility for local events or sports games. This is why we will be taking donations to fund the construction of a community sports facility. This facility will offer shelter from the elements during the rainy season as well as from the extreme heat during the summer months. With your help, Oguis can host events year round that bring the community together and strengthen local relationships.
